Floating Cranes

Okay...
So I painted my bedroom white a while ago and now the room is rather bland. I want to liven it up and bring in some color to the room with various objects and vibrant paintings.

I decided it would be somewhat neat to make a mobile-like item with cranes to hang in my room.

I used branches gathered from the back forest for a structure of sorts. I spray painted the branches a glossy black as well.

I had to visit a local craft store to pick up a couple things for this craft (decorative paper, some clear string, etc.). If you decide to give this a go or look into folding origami cranes with decorative paper, pick out some thinner decorative paper.

I find that it can be really hard to fold and get the creases right with the stiffer card stock paper. Whereas thinner paper seems to be more cooperative. The paper should be a bit stiffer than typical notebook paper though.

Let me just say this now, clear string is very hard to work with. I had difficulties seeing the string and tying with it. It requires a little extra patience is all.
After folding up a handful of cranes, I tied the paper birds to the branches. I used a longer needle to pull the string through middle of the crane.

To keep the cranes from sliding down the string, I tied on some miscellaneous beads directly below where I wanted the crane to sit. I like having the cranes hang at various heights to keep things interesting.

After the cranes were attached, I was able to hang up the mobile. I just taped the string on the ceiling as I can be pretty indecisive and may end up moving it to another part of the room. I suppose if so desired, some screws or other could be put on the ceiling to hang the mobile from.
